South Lodge is very easy to get to-

By Air:

If flying into Edinburgh and not hiring a car yourself we can be reached by taking either a taxi cab or the Airport Bus Service as detailed below. If hiring a car please follow the car directions in the next section as if arriving from the west.

Taxi

The taxi ride from the airport will take around 15minutes and will cost between £8 and £12. Just ask the driver to take you to 2A Dovecot Road in Corstorphine.

Airport Bus

The airport bus is an excellent and cheaper alternative to taking a cab but will require a 10 minute walk from the bus stop to South Lodge.
The bus runs 24hrs a day with a service running every 10 minutes between 4:30 am and 12:00 midnight and approximately hourly at other times.
The service has a flat charge of £3.50 single/ £6 return for adults and £2 single/£3 return for children.
Further details about the bus service and a map of the route can be found on their website fylbybus.com and a printable pdf version of the route details can be found here.
Please get off the bus at the Drumbrae stop (opposite a PC World shop and Mcdonalds restaurant). Cross the main road at the pedestrian crossing and walk down Meadow Place Road (PC World on your right). At the next set of traffic lights (next to a Tesco supermarket and a Police Station) turn left along Corsorphine High Street and take the second right down Ladywell Avenue. The next road on the left is Dovecot Road and South Lodge is on the left at the far end of the street- number 2A.

The map below shows the route from the bus stop to our front door.

By Car:

If arriving by car we have ample off-street parking on our driveway, alternatively there is unrestricted parking on the street which is free and never busy.

If using sat-nav to find your way here our postcode is EH12 7LE.

If you’re arriving from:

North

This assumes your are travelling south on the M90 motorway from Fife.
Cross the Forth Bridge and head down the A90 towards Edinburgh. You will reach a large junction with traffic lights (Barnton junction). Continue straight at the traffic lights and move into the right hand lane. At the next set of traffic lights turn right into a road named Drumbrae North. Drive up the hill and down the other side to the Drumbrae roundabout (you will see the PC World shop and McDonalds restaurant). Go straight across the roundabout onto Meadow Place Road (past PC Worls/Mc Donalds) and at the next set of traffic lights (next to a Tesco supermarket and a Police Station) turn left onto Corstorphine Hight Street. Next take the second right into Ladywell Avenue and the first left into Dovecot Road. South Lodge is at 2A Dovecot Rd on the left at the far end of the street.

South

This assumes you will reach the A720 Ediburgh bypass.
On reaching the bypass head west following signs to the Airport. Remain on this road until the end where you will reach a large roundabout called the Gogar roundabout. At this point a large Marks and Spencer shop will be on your right. At the Gogar roundabout turn right onto the A8 following signs for Edinburgh City Centre.
Keep on this road until your reach the Drumbrae roundabout (easily identified by a large PC World shop and McDonalds restaurant on your right). At this roundabout turn right down Meadow Place Road (past PC Worls/Mc Donalds) and at the next set of traffic lights (next to a Tesco supermarket and a Police Station) turn left onto Corstorphine Hight Street. Next take the second right into Ladywell Avenue and the first left into Dovecot Road. South Lodge is at 2A Dovecot Rd on the left at the far end of the street.

East

If coming from the East, make your way onto the A720 Edinburgh Bypass heading toward Edinburgh Airport and follow the directions above as if coming from the south.

West

If arriving from the West you will most likely be arriving on the M8 motorway.
Head East on M8. At junction 2 come off the M8 and join the M9 north until junction 1 (Newbridge roundabout), turn right (East) onto the A8 following signs for Edinburgh City Centre. You will pass the Airport on your left. (If arriving at the airport follow these instructions from here). Continue East on the A8 following the middle road under the large Gogar roundabout (a large Marks and Spencer shop will be on your right).

You can make your way from the bus station to us by either taking a traditional black taxi cab (about £ ) or by using Edinburgh’s excellent Lothian Region Transport (LRT) bus service. For details see the Getting Around section below.

By Train:

The main train station in Edinburgh is Waverly station. You can either take a cab (about £ ) or use the bus to get to us, for details see the Getting Around section below.

Getting Around:

.

Buses

The easiest way of getting around in Edinburgh is to use the excellent red Lothian Regional Transport (LRT) buses.
The buses cost £1.30 for adults / £0.70 for children (5-15 yrs) for a single journey or £3.20/£2 for an all day bus ticket.
*Please have exact money ready as the buses do not give change.*
Buses run very regularly from about 5am to 11:30pm after which there is a night bus service.

Arriving from Edinburgh City Centre

If arriving by bus or train into central Edinburgh it is easiest to catch a bus on Princes Street at a stop either next to the Tourist Office (directly outside Waverly Train Station) where you can catch the number 31, or at another stop 50m further west along Princes Street (towards the Scott Monument) you can catch the numbers 12, 26 or 31. The buses all follow the same route and are frequent so you will not have to wait long. Your journey will only be 20-30mins.
Both of these stops are only few minutes walk from both the Bus Station and Train Stations as shown here:

Get off the bus at Kirk Loan in Corstorphine- just outside a Sainsbury’s supermarket- just ask the driver.
From the bus stop you simply have to walk down Kirk Loan (past the old church yard) to the bottom. At the junction turn left down Saughton Road North, and Dovecot Road is the second street on the right. South Lodge is number 2a, the second house on the right hand side.

Getting into Edinburgh City Centre

The 12, 26 or 31 buses will take you straight onto Princes Street in Edinburgh city centre (you know you’re there when you see Edinburgh Castle on your right) from a bus stop a short walk away as shown here:

Walking

For those with time there is a lovely off-street walk into town by an old railway line and the Water of Leith (river) passing the Gallery of Modern Art. A lot of my guests do this walk, please ask us if you’re interested and we’ll be happy to give you directions.
